Chris Peterson
I was idling in #coldfusion on Dalnet this morning and amongst the distorted, haphazard conversations that usually occur in there, an awesome little tidbit of code popped up. Courtesy of Chris Peterson of Alagad fame.
Someone was asking about the formatting of the code that <CFDUMP> spits out and Chris suggested a few scenarios, one of which he said he uses all the time:
<cfdump format=”html” output=”c:\#createUUID()#_dump.html” var=”#whatever#” />
That tasty morsel spits the output to a handy dandy .html file. All these years, I’m ashamed to say I never knew you could do that. Very awesome. Thanks Chris. (yeah yeah yeah, I know, RTFD)

I found a really great resource today on site scalability. There’s a huge amount of information and you might want to have a few hours free to get into it. I will have to save it for another day when I have the time to read.
From the website itself:
We started High Scalability to help you build successful scalable websites. This site tries to bring together all the lore, art, science, practice, and experience of building scalable websites into one place so you can learn how to build your system with confidence. Hopefully this site will move you further and faster along the learning curve of success…

Stumbled across this service for people who write mobile web applications. From their about page:
Zong is the only web service that enables you to create and launch mobile services in 10 countries in under 10 minutes and generate revenues from each transaction.

The weather is finally nice. Steady nice. Mid 70’s, sunny, breezy. The perfect weather for golf. Charles and I have a tournament this Friday up at our club, Butternut Creek in Blairsville. I have way too much work to do though, so I’ll have to
work late this week and over the weekend to make up for playing hooky. We played this past Sunday and for the first time, on hole #7, a par 4, I made it over the water and just off the green to the right. 214 yards. YES! I usually lay up as I don’t have the confidence in my driver, but the previous week, I used an 8 iron and sent the ball right into the water, twice. Ooops. So this time, Charles suggested I might as well give it a go, I had been swinging the club pretty good, so I went for it. Boy it feels great when you hit one good.
Work: I’ve been doing some research this week and today I’m off to take pictures of an auto body shop in Buford. I’m working on their online presence and they need some up close and personal photos for their website. It’s a gorgeous day here in North Georgia so the lighting should be great.
Tech News: For those of you out there that use ActivEdit as your WYSIWYG of choice to integrate into your website, the company that sold it, Zrinity, no longer sells it. The open source version is now available on their website. I’ve been working on upgrading the 3.0 version in my content management system over the past week and will hopefully be done by next week.
My site of the week: GolfLink.com for the golfers out there! Been using it for quite a while and it’;s a pretty good resource for golf courses, playing tips and general golf news.

Odds and ends: I’ve been getting back into updating blogs and websites. Trying to manage my time a bit more wisely, taking some time for myself instead of always getting immersed in client work and bogged down in the details. I’ve been programming again, diving into SQL and CF and CFC’s. It took a little while to shake the cobwebs out of the head, but it’s coming back fairly quickly. Now I schedule my time between programming, marketing, research, updates, phone calls, emails and me-time.
Speaking of me-time, a good friend from the UK is here to visit until the 19th. That will be great fun. Charles and I are hosting a social tonight to welcome them to the states and introduce them to our crowd.
Marketing News: Ed Dale, Dane Raine and the 30 Day Challenge crew have started up again. Got a surprise email in the inbox the other day and was glad to see it was still rolling along. Check them out over at: ThirtyDayChallenge
